Les Miserables Inglewood Theatre reviews
Les Miserables....not what I remember
I have seen the Broadway version twice and was moved to tears both times. This version was scaled down to the point that if I had never seen the 1st 2, I would not have understood the story much at all. I brought a friend who had never seen the show & only sort of knew the story and he was lost. The orchestra was wonderful, but it was almost too loud to understand the words of the songs which were sung a lot faster. There were parts left out of this version such as Gavrosh singing his song after turning in Javaier. That part may have seemed unimportant , but it helped us as the audience to get to know him and really feel moved when he was killed.
I did not understand the changing of the opening scene from the chain gang to the boat rowers. The words of the song does not go with the actions of the men rowing a boat.
I understand that the turntable could not be used in this production, but the aftermath of the battle from the front of the barricade was missed.
Singers were excellent. Even better than what I have heard in the past and the special effects were tops.
I chose that I would recommend this to a friend because I still love the music and the story.
